We explain the available platelet preparations and consider the treatment area, goals, suitability and budget. You do not need to choose PRP, PRF or an Arthrex system before arriving.

3. Leave with a clear next step

If treatment is appropriate, your nurse discusses the proposed approach, price and course of care. Treatment can take place on the same day where clinically suitable. There is no obligation to proceed.

The first appointment is a complimentary 15-minute nurse-led consultation, secured by the refundable $50 booking deposit described above. The time needed for a treatment appointment is confirmed once your plan is agreed.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. Both use a preparation derived from your own blood; this is called an autologous treatment.

Platelets carry signalling proteins and growth factors involved in the body’s normal repair processes. Platelet-based regenerative treatments use selected blood components in the treated area. PRP and PRF differ in their processing and preparation characteristics.

For hair and scalp applications, the preparation is introduced to the assessed area as part of the agreed plan. The biological mechanism helps explain the treatment; it does not determine an individual result.

Why preparation matters

The collection method, processing system, spin protocol, blood volume and final preparation all affect what is produced. Platelet concentration describes the number of platelets in a given volume; total platelet content also depends on the volume prepared.

Think about when you first noticed the change in your hair, previous scalp or hair treatments and any recent changes in your health. Tell your nurse about your health conditions and medicines.

Your nurse explains the preparation and aftercare instructions for your chosen treatment. If you are hoping to proceed on the same day, contact us before your consultation so we can discuss what is appropriate.

Your nurse assesses suitability before treatment. Some health conditions and medicines can make platelet treatments inappropriate, and medical clearance may be required.

Using your own blood avoids donor material, but it does not remove treatment risks. Temporary tenderness, redness or mild swelling at the treatment site can occur. The nurse discusses the risks and aftercare relevant to your plan before treatment.

Hair thinning has different causes. No platelet treatment guarantees regrowth, restoration of a receding hairline or a particular change in density. The aim is an appropriate plan with realistic expectations and progress reviewed over time.

Clinical research has reported improvements in hair density with PRP for some hair-loss presentations, but preparation methods and treatment protocols vary. That evidence does not establish identical results for PRF, Arthrex ACP or ACP MAX, or predict your individual response.

Advanced preparation detail

Our advanced treatment protocol includes Arthrex ACP liquid PRF and ACP MAX concentrated PRP containing platelet-derived exosomes. Arthrex’s current aesthetics information describes ACP as a closed double-syringe system for preparing fluid PRF from your own blood.

Arthrex describes ACP MAX as a sterile triple-syringe system that can process 30, 60 or 90 mL of whole blood over two centrifugation stages. The current manufacturer information reports up to 12 times platelet concentration over baseline, up to 99% reduction of red blood cells and up to 98.9% reduction of neutrophils.

These are manufacturer-reported preparation characteristics, not promises of hair results. “Needle-free” in the ACP system description refers to the preparation system; blood collection still uses a needle.
