What are platelet-based treatments?
Autologous means the biological material is derived from your own body. In this context, a blood sample is collected and processed so selected blood components can be used in treatment. The preparation originates from the client's own blood rather than donor material.
Preparation method matters because different systems can produce preparations with different platelet, fibrin and cellular characteristics. That is why we talk about preparation pathways rather than a single product.
ACP and ACP MAX are prepared using the Arthrex Horizon centrifuge with genuine Arthrex ACP and ACP MAX consumables. Preparation is carried out in clinic and the sample remains yours throughout.

What makes Arthrex ACP different?
Arthrex ACP is an advanced PRP preparation pathway using genuine Arthrex ACP consumables in a closed double-syringe system. The preparation remains autologous throughout, meaning it is derived from your own blood and nothing external is introduced.
What makes Arthrex ACP MAX different?
Arthrex describes the ACP MAX system as using a double-spin preparation process and allowing 30 mL, 60 mL or 90 mL of whole blood to be processed for PRP preparation. Larger processing volumes can produce a more concentrated PRP preparation.
Arthrex describes the resulting ACP MAX PRP as depleted of red blood cells and granulocytes, including neutrophils.
These are preparation characteristics described by the manufacturer. They describe how the preparation is produced, not a promised treatment outcome. Preparation characteristics vary according to processing volume and protocol, and individual responses vary.
ACP MAX remains autologous PRP prepared from your own blood.
How ACP MAX is prepared
- A whole blood sample is collected.
- A first centrifugation stage separates the blood components.
- A second centrifugation stage further concentrates the platelet-rich component.
- The final PRP preparation is collected.
- The preparation remains autologous throughout.
ACP MAX is not an externally sourced exosome treatment. It prepares autologous platelet-rich plasma from the client's own blood.
Platelet-derived extracellular vesicles, sometimes referred to as exosomes, are biological components associated with platelet signalling. That is a different thing from an externally sourced exosome product, and we do not market ACP MAX as exosome therapy.

Scalp treatment planning considers the areas involved, what you have noticed, your treatment history and which preparation is suitable for you. Suitability is assessed at a nurse-led consultation and individual responses vary.
Face & Skin
Platelet preparations are commonly explored to support skin quality and texture, and as part of facial treatment planning across the cheek and mid-face, jawline and neck. The preparation discussed with you depends on the area being treated, your goals and your individual suitability.
Under-Eyes
The under-eye area is delicate and requires individual assessment. Standard PRP, Standard PRF, Arthrex ACP and Arthrex ACP MAX may each be discussed depending on anatomy, treatment goals, treatment history and suitability.
More concentrated does not automatically mean more appropriate for this area. This is a discussion to have with your nurse rather than a decision to make from a price list.
Who may be suitable?
Platelet-based treatments are explored by adults considering treatment for the hair and scalp, the face and skin, or the under-eye area. Because the preparation uses your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction is low.
Suitability is always assessed individually. Some health conditions and medications mean these treatments are not appropriate, and medical clearance may be required. Your nurse will go through this with you at consultation.

Downtime & aftercare
